FAQ'S

Welcome to the FAQs section, here we will try and answer some of the most common questions a new person may ask when starting the Nitro Car Hobby or even throw in a question that you may not even heard of as of yet.

Q1) My Engine wont start?

A) There can be several reasons why your engine is not starting:

A1) You have not primed the engine correctly

A2) Your glow plug has died (check if it works by taking it out with the glow wrench and putting the glow starter on it, if the coil in the glow plug glows bright orange it is working, if not try this on a new glow plug).

A3) Your glow starter may be dead, do as stated above on answer 2.

A4) Your engine may have an air leak causing there to be no compression, check your cynlinder head screws and weather there is a tight seal around the base of the engine and bottom of the cynlinder head.

Q2) My engine is hard to start, why?

Starting an engine is never 100% easy, let alone to get it to run smoothly after starting it. There can be a few reasons why your engine is hard to start :

A1) There may be leakage of air causing there to be lack of compression in the engine resulting in the mixture of the fuel and air to be wrong making it harder for the engine to start, do as stated in answer 2 of question 1.

A2) If your engine has a pullstart the one way bearing (OWB) inside the pullstart may be slipping, take your pullstart off the engine and check weather the OWB is slipping or has been grinded away which will mean you need a new OWB. If it is just slipping this may be due to nitro fuel or oil on it so clean it with a towel or old rag.

A3) Your tuning settings of your engine may be wrong either too rich or too lean meaning either the engine is flooded with nitro fuel or the engine is not getting enough fuel. If you are not use to tuning the engine especially if your new go back to the factory settings as said in the engine manual and start from there. Tune the engine to become leaner from factory settings tuning the HSN clockwise 1/8th of a turn and check for performance by doing a 2 runs and once you get a thin trail of smoke it is best to stop there otherwise you may over lean your engine (do not attempt tuning if you are about to break into your engine) .

Q3)What is a Nitro engine?

A1) A nitro engine is an engine that internal combusts (IC engine) fuel what is around 10-30% Nitromethane mixed with methanol. Nitromethane is a very combustible substance which is only really generally used in specific model or modified engines (such as 1:1 drag racers engines). The fuel we use has around 12-25% lube, we need this much as our RC engines can turn over 20,000 rpm nowadays. The nitro engines tune all comes from the carburetor needles, high speed needle and low speed needle and some adjustments on the tick screw also better known as the rev screw, see "Break'in Engine" guide.
